As an entrepreneur / webmaster you must remember that failure is always a possibility period. Take failure with a pinch of salt but that is not where the life ends, it is a stepping stone towards bigger success. Remember you are not the first person who has failed.
Instead of doing all lectures about failures I will share my failure stories today. It is not that I have not shared it before but not with the very minute details that I will do it today.
Every entrepreneur will have both success and failure attached to his journey and If you know me personally you may be aware that I own Go4Expert but that is not my first website where I tried my hands on. My First Website was and is GlobalDevelopers.net
I remember that when I thought of getting into websites online I hardly knew what it was all about. I started reading and found that web development, web design was not my cup of tea and so thought of outsourcing it. As it happens with no experience with outsourcing I wasted lot of money on outsourcing the development work to a team of professionals (as they call it) and they delivered really crap (according to me). I lost a handsome money and any business when looses handsome money to start with becomes that much more difficult.
I had no plans to waste more money and so I thought of working with the crap code and make it better myself. I handled the failure by learning PHP and that helped me in more than one way to my first success.
When I started learning PHP I understood that there is no need to re-invent the wheels and there are CMSes available for everything you want to do and your job is just reuse it. I tried my hands on CMSes and started to read lot of information in many forums and blogs. I found that there are lot of people who share things online and finally got me the idea why not share my engineering codes online.
Now this time I used my last failure to my advantage. I was pretty sure I will not re-invent the wheel and so I started to look at what CMSes options I had at that time.
I nailed down to a list of CMSes I would prefer with advantages and disadvantages of each of them and finally decided to go with forum CMSes but not in its pure form. The result is in front of you – Go4Expert.com. The CMS that I am using is one of the major reason for my success with Go4Expert.
After having one successful forum I had one more – MBAGuys.net
Club-Google.com & OperaOfLife.com I started without making any effort on planning. I started to think that I cannot do anything wrong with forums as I am too good at it.
The result is in front of all of us to see.
Club-Google.com is now closed and I may soon sell off the vBulletin license if I could or re-use it on some other forum in future. OperaOfLife.com is still a live forum with hardly anyone apart from me visiting it.
After the failures of both of them I started self assessment and found that I was just too overconfident to think about them before jumping into it. I had no planning behind them for a long term growth prospects.
Each failure provides a lot of self assessment questions like What did I do wrong? What I could change if I was given a time machine to rewind to my past? Never Repeat The Same Mistake, There Are Plenty of New Ones to Make.
Success many can handle reasonably well but real character is one who can handle failures and come out of it to be more successful.
Remember Failure Is An Important Part of Success.
Over to You
