Purchasing an item online from an international seller who does not accept PayPal and you will need a credit card.
I have not been able to update my blogs on a consistent basis for last 4 months and it is because they have been quite a churn for me. After moving from Kolkata to Surat, first couple of months I only tried getting people to make my flat ready to move in. Thankfully I could do that just before the month of Ramadan.
I had a feeling that once I am into my flat, things will be lot easier as I may not need to rush to my flat every few hours but it was completely opposite of what I had thought.
Before I moved in, I had long list of things to be done and purchased like Fan, AC, Aquaguard, Geysers but once I moved in, the list became even bigger, more critical and heavier on price. List had Washing Machine, refrigerator, Microwave …
I am still working on that list of things to be done and planning to get it as close as possible to complete but still have the list with quite a few heavy priced items like second AC for my bed room, second TV for the living room, car and it isn’t getting any smaller.
Last one month or so I was constantly shopping for things like curtains, bathroom accessories but now things are lot under control when it comes to managing my time as well as my finance.
Once I had done away with the critical list of things needed, I have to get moving with the change of address in my bank accounts, credit cards, mobile phones, demat accounts , etc. Still I am resident of Kolkata on paper but I feel I have managed to get things moving in the right direction and it will need very few hours of my time weekly for next few weeks to get things completed.
So finally I get started to blog.
You may feel that blogging is something that had less priority but that is not at all the case. My blog readers are higher priority but then I did not had the right frame of mind to provide good quality content for my readers and so thought of not just putting up a post just for the sake of it. Apart from that there are quite a few things that I need to get moving after I get started to with my blogs and one of them is getting my ITR done for the last fiscal and filing tax returns which will be started in August.
Let me get moving by answering a user question which is
How to get a Credit Card as a Student in India?
Why student needs a credit card?
When trying to pay amount in foreign currency, you may need a credit card because debit card from all banks does not allowing foreign currency payments. So if you want to be purchasing an item online from an international seller who does not accept PayPal, you will need a credit card.
So how do you get one?
Before trying to get a credit card, try using a debit card. If the payment fails, try to call the bank and see if you can enable your debit card for and international payments.
If that does not work try to use your dad’s credit card.
If all the options are closed and you need a credit card with your name on it as a student. So let me share with you what all options you have to get a credit card for you.
1. Submit an ITR (Income tax return)
The biggest issue with application of credit card is ITR. As a student, you don’t have income which implies you don’t file your tax returns and so it can become quite tough to get you a credit card.
Even if your income is not taxable, you can file income tax returns and get a copy of submitted ITR for your PAN with zero tax and use it in an application for a credit card.
2. Apply for Credit card without any income documents
Even if you submit your ITR, you may not be eligible for a credit card because your income may not high enough to issue a credit card on it. The last option left for you is to apply for a credit card that does not require any income documents. Only document needed is a fixed deposit with the bank.
Ask your dad to get you an FD and use it to get you a credit card. When I was in my third year engineering, I asked my dad to get me an FD in ICICIBank for a credit card. You don’t need to be doing a big FD (which is what sales person will want to) and just a minimum amount available can help you get going. Here is a link of ICICIBank and SBI card with details about such cards.
Hope it helps.
