No Matter in which business you are, the most important thing for any business to flourish is “Trust” but now how can you build solid trust. Be it your blog readers, your clients, or your customers.
Few days back there was a conversation with a client in Elance workroom. As I am in India, normally when I am sleeping US/UK clients tend to be online. In the morning I saw that client accepted my terms as well as completed the Escrow and released the payment for first milestone and wanted me to start on the project. I thanked him for completing the payment where he replied
“I trust you would do great job.”
Now where the trust started. He has never seen me and this was the first time we were doing any business in elance. The only thing he knows about me is my email address, my elance profile and the bid I placed on his project.
For building credibility and trust I follow the following guidelines but remember that it is a long term process that requires a great deal of time and effort.
1. Be Human
I always prefer my username on sites starts with Shabbir my real name and do not prefer anything that does not sound like human. When you read my Investment Blog you would see my profile and same is the case here ( see footer ) and any site I am linked with.
2. Admit what you know and don’t know
Many of my clients ask for some work which I am not expert at and I reply them saying I am not an expert at that and unless you do not find someone expert in that field I can do it for you. I use the same ideology on my blog. People ask me lots of related questions, and at times I reply them that I am not an expert in that area to answer. One of the question which is very common on my investment blog is “Should I invest in XYZ company” and unless I track that stock I tend to reply that I do not have much expertise in XYZ company and do not track it.
3. Show your expertise
If you are bidding on any project or writing your own blog show that you are an expert in your area. As an example if you are bidding for SEO project or some search engine marketing project but your own site does not rank anywhere then you can never convince your client to award you the project.
4. Longevity Counts
Any business needs time to build credibility, trust and relationship. If you are new into your business someone can be a little suspicious of your business and wonder how long they’ll last. If you are new into the industry you are bound to get such unsaid feedback’s but do not take them as a negative. It’s just that you need to be more consistently into it for more time to build credibility, trust and profile in your industry.
