Set Target for your Blog’s Performance

CodeItWell.com is my latest blog and I am really exited about it but after my recent post about First Milestone of 2500 Blog Readers I got a very interesting comment about how I am excited about 2500 RSS readers when I have 65k+ members on Go4Expert.com

Yes it’s true that I am excited about this blog but more than that I always setup small targets for every site and I go for it.

CodeItWell.com nowhere gets traffic close to Go4Expert.com but then I never try to have that as a target. I take one step at a time and try to get to that within a specified time frame and if I get there before the expected time I become excited and it drives me to make second milestone and go even harder at that.

I had a target of 2500 Readers in 2009 but reached that few days before 31st December 2009 and soon I had my new target for 2010. I am damn sure this target will also be achieved and I am working very hard on it.

I’ve encountered many new web site owners, bloggers, who are afraid of putting numbers down, be it in public or in private. How do I know that my target is a good one? No need to be. Get a target because any future target has to be either a guess or for experienced people it would be an educated guess and nothing more than that. So get a target and write it because it has multiple benefits.

1. It Drives you

If you have a target which you look at it daily there are very less chance that you will divert from that. Apart from that it also gives your opportunity to rethink about new ways to achieve your target faster. For my case of 2500 Readers you may have seen that Aweber was the biggest contributor to my readers’ growth and I started few months back.

2. Feel of accomplishment

If you achieve targets it gives a self satisfaction and also drives you further to setup next target and drives you to go for next one and so on.

3. Help estimate well in future

Even if you do not achieve your target you know how well or worst you estimated and help improve on your next target.

Now the second question that I get is

I have the target but then it becomes at times difficult to achieve and that drives me down.

Let us take my target as an example. I have 12k RSS readers target for 2010 but for argument sake at the end of August I see that readers are still 6k and by no means can I achieve 12k. What do I do now?

  1. How much of my actual target is achieved. Say I get to 9k instead of my 12k readers in 2010 and so that would mean I have done 75% of my target and I am fine with it. 75% is a good score in many exams. icon biggrin Set Target for your Blog’s Performance Get next target which is not as tough as your previous one and get the feeling of accomplishment of 75% score.
  2. If you cannot be satisfied with 75% of your score try getting the target modified after each month so you get reasonable one each month and try a hit and miss to judge better for long targets.

Both ways it will drive me and not slow me down.

So I would like to ask, what are your targets? Share them below and it will be a record as well but the question is “Do you dare to share”.
