GetResponse Footer SlideUp

by Shabbir on June 14, 2010

My first ever WordPress plugin – AWeber Footer SlideUp form crossed 100 downloads in few hours and many user including TerryJett rated it as best plugin of 2010 ( I know it is not icon smile GetResponse Footer SlideUp ).

We all know AWeber is not the only autoresponder and so many wanted me to have a plugin for general use and it can be done in future but as of now based on reader’s demand I have created similar plugin for GetResponse – GetResponse Footer Slideup Form

I personally do not use GetResponse on my blogs but they offers a free trial account to start with which has helped me immensely to develop this plugin. The reason I do not use GetResponse is because there is no reason to move out of AWeber. For more details you can read my views on AWeber Vs GetResponse.

Plugin Description

Footer Slideup Form is one of the best ways to ask your user to subscribe to your list without any interruption or blocking and this plugin does exactly that. It adds GetResponse slider subscribe form in the footer of your WordPress blog. GetResponse is an autoresponder which allows you to send series of email message to subscribers.

This plugin is only for GetResponse form and for AWeber please use AWeber Footer SlideUp form plugin.

Installation Instructions

Please Follow the exact Steps to install and activate this plugin.

 1. Generate an Inline form using the GetResponse Interface.
 2. Grab the HTML code of your GetResponse Form and Search for Hidden Form Fields You will find them between the form tag.
 3. Upload the plugin folder getresponse-footer-slideup into your plugins directory located at wp-content/plugins.
 4. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
 5. Edit Options under the Menu ‘GetResponse Footer SlideUp’. Paste the hidden form HTML Code generated in Step 2. Remember not to include the custom_http_referer hidden field from HTML code

FAQ’s

How to Edit the Tag Line Subscribe By Email for Weekly Updates?

Heading Tag Line (Optional) in the admin interface of the plugin. Leaving it blank will show default tagline.

Can you please give a clearer instruction on which code needs to be pasted where and (if any) what code is replaced by in the plug in code please?

Generate HTML in the GetResponse Interface and you will see tons of HTML code but in the middle of that HTML code search for campaign_name and you will find that there are hidden fields near that like this

<input id="error_url" name="error_url" type="hidden" />
<input id="confirmation_url" name="confirmation_url" type="hidden" />
<input id="campaign_name" name="campaign_name" type="hidden" value="YourCampaignName" />
<input id="custom_ref" name="custom_ref" type="hidden" />

Now Visit the GetResponse Footer SlideUp Options under the Settings menu and add the above code (For your form ofcourse)

If you see that you have all blank values like my sample above then you can add the following one line.

<input id="campaign_name" name="campaign_name" type="hidden" value="YourCampaignName" />

Remember to change the YourCampaignName string to your actual GR campaign name.

The plug-in adds by itself one hidden field custom_http_referer, two input fields (aka name and email) and a submit button.

Hello, great popup plugin, but to prevent the form from pushing down below the browser, you need a style=display:inline to keep the form on the top line.

What do you mean by below the browser?

Hi Shabbir,

Thank you so much for the awesome plugin, all what you have to do guys is to look for one line in your webform HTML code

Where XXXXXX is your webform ID, copy this line and paste it in the plugin and you are ready to go.

Qasim, thanks for those wonderful words.

Thanks a lot for that great plugin. It needs sometime until I understood how it works.
All you have to do is to copy that code in the plugin:

Instead of 012345 you have to put in your own getresponse-campaign id, i.e. 412341 in.

Thanks also for the easy-to-edit code. 1 minute, and I had translated the english-words into german. Now, it looks really cool on my blog. :-)

Best regards
Matthias

oops that may not show the code guys.. its the only line that says “hidden” in it and will say “webform id” = xxxxxx which will be where you see your form id number.

Thanks Brian for providing that input because I don’t use GetResponse and so I don’t track the changes in HTML code of GetResponse.

Hello all, The GetResponse code changed a bit, or at least it seemed to me. My site runs the code great at the bottom as it should be and i love the plugin..

Just to make things short & sweet for those who in the future ask what code to input?
It is

It is toward the bottom of the html code and it is easier to find if you choose the “non-css” option when your looking at the code page.

The x’s are where you will see your webform id # nothing else is needed.

Just smack that part of the code in and away you go :)

Hello Shabbir,

Thank you for your plugin very useful and well done.

Is it possible to increase the time to onset of slideup?
This would allow for me to draw the attention of visitors.
How to proceed?

Thank you again for your great job.

Regards,

Olivier

Shabbir, I came to know this plugin from one website which uses it and it has feedburner which I subscribed through. So i think they might have customized code.

I’ve send you a mail from the contact page with some code, as I struggle to find the code back given as example in your instructions.

If you can give me some hints as to where to look for in the code that would be great.

Many thanks and I look forward to your reply.

Thank you once again.

I’ve tried your suggestion and if worked (of cause), but the result wasn’t as good as I though, so I changed it back to the original layout.

I’ve also moved the css to my custom folder, tested it, and sure it did work as well.
Amazing what can be done with a little css magic :)

Reply

Shabbir September 8, 2011 at 5:58 pm

Yes very true. CSS is a real magic. :D Also I am still not able to view your site without entering the captcha.

Thank you.
Regarding the tagline now it is:
Subscribe to my bla bla bla…
FORM | SUBMIT

I would like it to be:
Subscribe to my bla bla bla… | FORM | SUBMIT

Reply

Shabbir September 8, 2011 at 3:38 pm

Add the float:left property to the tagline div and that should make the form and submit div to be in same line as the tagline.

Hello Shabbir,

Thank you for an absolutely great plugin!

I have a suggestion /wish for you for an eventual coming update.

If you visit my site, you will see I have altered the colors and the submit button.

It would be great if you made it possible to keep this kind of editing in a custom folder, so that they were not overwritten by updating the plugin.

Also; I find it would be ok for you to insert some kind of donation possibility (PayPal ect.). I would happily paid you something for this plugin, and I guess others would too.

Best regards
Michael

Hi Michael, Not sure if we can have a custom folder under a plugin because if I rename the file with each release is the only way not to update it with the upgrade. The best is to have your CSS things under your themes custom folder and it will work just the same.

About the donation yes I should have had that before hand but yes I will add that soon. I have few updates pending for these plugins and will add the donate button with those changes. As of now if you wish, you can send me anything at shabbir @ go4expert.com

Just made a small donation as an appreciation of your work.

I notice you too uses Thesis. What you’re suggesting is I add your css as .custom .whatever to my custom file?

An other thing is, that I would like the header “Subscribe and start…” and the form to be aligned. I’ve tried to figure it out, but did not succeed. Any help?
:)
Michael

Shabbir September 8, 2011 at 2:36 pm

Thanks for the donation.

Yes you can add your CSS customization to the custom css file in thesis. You can just copy the same thing you have in your plugin CSS file to your Thesis custom.css file.

Header can be configured with the tagline. Also form alignment means? It is aligned to center of screen and how do you want the alignment to be there.

Hi, this is great!

How do I change the colour of the “Subscribe and get weekly updates” text and the background blue colour of slider?

Thanks :)

Update the CSS under the FooterForm id.

Hello again Shabbir,

I don’t mean to keep bugging you, but is there a way to have a picture like on the left side somewhere showing an eBook they could get if they sign up? Is that something that can be added in CSS or is there not something setup for that?

Thanks again

Is this plugin still working with Wordpress 3.1? Are you planning on making updates to it to ensure that it continues working in the future? I’m curious, because I know you’re actually an Aweber guy yourself, so I know you have a vested interest in that plugin… not so sure about the GetResponse one.

Thanks.

Reply

Shabbir March 30, 2011 at 6:40 pm

Jaceman, This plugin works fine with WP 3.1 but not sure if the install steps are perfect because GR keeps changing the HTML code way too often. If you have issues you can get me GR code and I can help you get it working. As far as WP goes all plugin uses the same basic structure and so you can safely assume it works with WP 3.1

JaceMan April 2, 2011 at 5:20 pm

I’m having some trouble getting it to work as well. I have tried using the code on one of my sites: http://crohsncolitisbible.com and one of the first things I notice is that the “form” shows twice. I have two place to enter name and email… the first set is created by Get Response. If I use those and click submit, I am told that my autoresponder doesn’t exist… but I definitely have one. If I use the second set for name and email, part of your plugin I believe and click Submit, nothing happens. I can click it all day long and nothing actually takes place.

I’d be glad to share the code I have copied into your plugin form in my admin panel. It is as follows:

Shabbir April 3, 2011 at 4:39 am

Hi JaceMan, this wordpress comment system needs you to place the code in <pre> block or else you can email me the code as well and I will be more than happy to get it working for you. I visited your site but could not see my plugin as well.

Hi Shabbir,

It looks better but there is an extra box on the left.

Shabbir December 16, 2010 at 11:08 am

You have messed up the html once again

It should be between angular bracket

input type=”hidden” name=”webform_id” value=”12063″
But you have
input type=”hidden” name=”webform_id” value=”12063?

See the last? in your code where as it should be “

Hi Shabbir,

Here is my blog URL: http://jobseekersparadise.com/

Jasmine,

You have posted the complete code from GetResponse but it should be only this one line.

<input type=”hidden” name=”webform_id” value=”12063″/>

They have complicated the code so no one could extract the HTML and I don’t know why.

It worked after I switched from 3.0.1 to 3.0.3. I guess this plugin (nor the aWeber one) work with 3.0.1.

Shabbir December 13, 2010 at 8:27 am

Tay, I myself is using Wordpress 3.0.1 and AWeber plugins works fine with it?

I am trying to install this on my blog, but whenever I paste in exactly what you say, all I get is a bunch of blank boxes that have stuff like this in them:

“”/
“”/
“campaignname”/
“33333″/

I have 4 boxes going straight across with the values in them. Help! :(

Hi Shabbir

I noticed there are three hidden tags in the html code, but the first two have these brackets { and do not have the normal < brackets

I have pasted the code in these brackets and the brackets, teh last html hidden field, and i keep getting errors in getresponse

thanks for your help

Hi Peter, Ideally the hidden Div’s is what I am talking.

You said:
“Add all the Hidden Fields Code apart from the custom_http_referer hidden fields ”
“And you should add them.”
“Remember not to include the custom_http_referer hidden field from HTML code”

Sorry, this is not clear enought to be followed by non-experts… :-S
Forrest Gump (=me) asks now: what do you mean “custom_http_referer” I have not to include?

Shabbir, thanks for your patience!
I have added the whole HTML code generated by GR in the clear field at your plugin Options under the Menu ‘GetResponse Footer SlideUp’. What is the next step? should the footer slideUp after that run automatically, or are ther widgests or activation menus elsewhere?

Thanks for your compassion! ;-)

Javier, You should activate and put the code for the hidden HTML fields. You should not add the hidden field custom_http_referer because it is already added and has some special meanings for the GetResponse Form to function correctly.

How do I make the submit button an image? I add the line and it worked but the image was very small and not the right size.

Shabbir October 17, 2010 at 6:03 am

Is this updated since Getresponse changed their web form interface – 8-30-2010?
'Cause there is no code like you mention in the html of my get response forms as of 9-6-2010

Shabbir Bhimani September 6, 2010 at 3:22 am

They have changed the interface but still the hidden form fields should be there but if you can paste your GR code I can look at it. I am not using GR myself and so cannot comment on this as of now.

Hi John,

Yes the biggest problem with all developer's including me are they think everyone should know HTML but yes I will try to explain what HTML you need to add in the box.

Generate HTML in the GetResponse Interface and you will see tons of HTML code but in the middle of that HTML code search for campaign_name and you will find that there are hidden fields near that like this

<input type=”hidden” name=”error_url” id=”error_url” value=”"/>
<input type=”hidden” name=”confirmation_url” id=”confirmation_url” value=”"/>
<input type=”hidden” name=”campaign_name” id=”campaign_name” value=”YourCampaignName”/>
<input type=”hidden” name=”custom_ref” id=”custom_ref” value=”"/>

And you should add them.

If you see that you have all blank values like my sample then you can add the following one line also.

<input type=”hidden” name=”campaign_name” id=”campaign_name” value=”YourCampaignName”/>

Remember to change the YourCampaignName string to your actual GR campaign name.

I'm trying to install this on my blog, not a developer so your instructions don't quite go far enough for me…can you help me? I don't know what piece of this code generated by GetResponse I should use and what to leave off. (btw, the link to your blog that came in with the plugin goes to a 404 page) I would also like to add the logo and customize like I saw on MichelleMacphearson.com (I saw this plugin announced on thirtydaychallenge.com and noticed Michelle is using it). Appreciate any help.

Shabbir Bhimani August 13, 2010 at 3:06 am

The 404 Error is now corrected and thanks for reporting that. Now coming to your requirement you can paste the complete GR code here and I can tell you what you should use in the field.

Regarding the image you want it is possible but would need editing the CSS.
